- Move anything valuable out from under the leak and put a bucket or bowl underneath it.
- If a patch of ceiling is bulging, water is pooling above it. Push a small hole through at the lowest point with a screwdriver so it drains into a bucket instead of the ceiling coming down on its own.
- Stay off the roof yourself. More people get hurt checking a leak than from the leak itself, especially in wet or windy weather.
